- The club was successful last year developing
a Ladies Jogging Group. Cliff Brown initiated the idea and operated
it from the Antonine Sports Centre in Duntocher
with Gyllian Thomson. Gyllian developed and took responsibility for the Group
and Cliff was also there with trails over measured distances from 2miles to over 10 miles
were available. The group has now been running for almost 2 years
and
had 12 ladies who completed the Britannic ladies 10km in May 2001 and the
Polaroid 10km series. The group has now merged with the mixed training groups on Tuesdays
and Thursdays from the Antonine and Scotstoun track. Just contact Cliff or Gyllian (email below) or
turn up on the night.

- Meanwhile the top ladies in the club are
Shelagh King who is a noted hill runner favouring the longer and
higher races such as Stuc a Chroin at Strathyre and the David
Shepherd Memorial on Skye, Marjory Small who already has wins in
shorter hill races as well as over 10,000 metres on the road and
Lorna Williamson who is Scottish Champion in her class of Athletes
with a Learning Disability. Lorna holds Scottish and British records
over distances from 400metres to 1500metres.
-
- Among the younger girls, there is also
plenty of talent emerging. Donna Campbell for instance won the
County Under 13 100metres and the County Schools 100metres and
Long Jump as a first year in the age group. Louise Boyle is a good
Under 15 800metres runner and Long Jumper who has won medals at
most championships this year while her namesake (but no relation)
Ainslie Boyle has won sprints at County and County Schools level
also at Under 15. With these girls and a host of others coming along
the future for the younger girls and for Clydesdale Harriers is very
bright.
