1. - JAMES AUSTIN - 34.49 The young athletes cross country championships started with a race for Under 11 and Under 13 athletes which was won convincingly by Rachel Busby in 4 minutes 45 seconds from Chloe Wright (4:48) and Ruaridh Maxwell (5:37). The second race was a short course race for Under 13 – Under 17 runners and Tony Dolan was first finisher in 8:07 to win comfortably from Ryan Nelson (8:46) and Colin Gray (9:37). The other Under 17 athletes took part over a longer course with Ryan Savage being first Under 17 Man in 11:28 and David Brown second in 12:23 and Natalie Quinn winning the women’s race in 15:09. The club champions after a hard day’s work were Rachel Busby – Under 11 Girls; Chloe Wright – Under 13 Girls; Natalie Quinn – Under 17 Women; Tony Dolan – Under 13 Boys; and Ryan Savage – Under 17 Men. |

Young Athletes Results Most of the runners were out again a day later in the last meeting of the Indoor League in Kelvin Hall. The Under 17 men, second in the league after the last meeting, were well represented and Johnathan Farrell got them off to a good start with a win in the 60 metres in 7.47 seconds. He followed this with a win in the 200 in 23.9 and third in the shot putt with a best of 8.35 metres. David Brown took part in three events as well with eighth in the 400 metres, eighth in the 800 metres in 2:32.1 and a personal best of 1.45 metres in the high jump. Anton Russell ran well in the 60 metres hurdles to be fourth in 10.5 and also contested the long jump. Ryan Nelson doubled up with David Brown in the 400 where he was timed at 71 seconds and 800 in 2:46.1. Alan McColl returned to competition with a personal best of 9.28 metres in the Under 20 shot putt. Natalie Quinn was the first of the Under 17 Women in action and was third in the 600 metres in 8.63 seconds and was also first in the 300 metres in 45.1 and seventh in the high jump with a personal best of 1.35 metres. Sinead Griffin was third in the 200 in 28.9 seconds and fourth in the shot putt with 6.35 metres. Megan Reid was second in the hurdles in 10.2 seconds and also competed in the long jump. There were several absences in the Under 15 Boys team but the whole team performed well. In the 60 metres Sean Griffin was third in 7.9 seconds. Sean also took part in the shot putt where he had a good throw of 9.23 metres. Ryan Kelly compeed well in the 200 metres with an excellent first 100 and a good battling finish to be second in 27.6 seconds. Peter Bowman added massively to the points total with wins in the 400 metres and 800 metres in times of 60.0 and 2:17. The Under 13 Girls had two teams forward and all did well. In the 60 metres Beth Atkinson was timed at 10.6 and Naimh Griffin had exactly the same time in the next race. Chloe Wright was fifth in the 200 metres in 37.7 and then turned out in the 600 metres where she was seventh in 3:14.7. Carly Adams also ran in the 800 – her first ever run at the distance – and was eighth in 3:25. Carly also ran in the 60 metres hurdles where she was fourth in 13.2 seconds. Beth Atkinson also ran in the hurdles event and was timed at 12.9 seconds and competed in the shot putt where she was seventh with 4.67 metres. Not all the results for the Under 13 Boys events were available on the day but Keir Martin was fourth in the 60 metres in 10.2 seconds and fifth in the 200 metres in 35.2 seconds and Tony Dolan had a very good day when he set a personal best of 2:40.4 when finishing second in the 800 metres. Rachel Busby had a good day less than twenty four hours after winning the club cross country championship when she was fourth in the 600 metres in 2:17.3 and fourth in the 60 metres in 10.9 seconds |
